Better to Love or to be Loved?

In a recent Facebook entry, my neice Jessica Garcia asked, “What is better, to love or to be loved?”
One person answered, “Everyone needs a bit of both”.

To which Jessica responded, “But very few find it.”

Reading this spawned an inspiration in me and I responded to their comments with the following comments. After re-reading it I wanted to preserve what I had written because it struck my heart.

My comment:

You will never find out until you lose the fear of losing the love. You can't "be loved" because "being loved" really just means "feeling loved" and you can't feel loved when you are afraid of loving (being hurt). Your defense mechanisms allows you pretend to be involved while deep inside you never let go to truly experience love.

When you do, you will understand that it is better to LOVE than it is to be loved. You are ALWAYS in control of loving. No one can stop you from loving.

...and once you are in control of loving, you realize that you can feel loved by everyone even if they are not loving you... You define your own reality of what love is, what receiving love is, and how you react to the idea of love.

Love is infinite, and when the fountain of love flows from your innermost being all is love. Quickest way there? Capture the feeling of love you feel when worshiping God, and start channeling that towards other people-- Divine love-- LOVING PEOPLE WITHOUT CONDITIONS.

Very few people find it, because they LOOK in the wrong place... They seek to FIRST be loved (feel loved) and then afterwards as a reward to those that love them, they then seek to love....

First LOVE others, and then you will find you do not need their love in return. Your love for them is sufficient. Overflowing it pervades and infects all around you. Without even wanting to people will find themselves loving you. You will reap love even from places (people) where you do not sow love... But you will reap what you sow.

  4. Great inspiration!... Okk.... I have a question. How is it that we can "Feel Love" and not feel when "Our feelings get hurt"??? Do we not feel Love & "Feeling Hurt" in the same place?

  5. Sandy, I never said that you can not feel that your feelings are hurt. I said it is impossible for someone else to hurt your feelings... Just as it is impossible for someone else to hurt your feelings (that is a decision you make) it is also impossible for someone to make you feel unloved or loved -- those are decisions that you make. Thus my statement that when the fountain of infinite love flows from inside of you....
